Barnaby Joyce, the nation’s twice former Deputy Prime Minister is today considering changing his phone number.
The rather inconvenient decision to chop up his sim, activate a new one and alert all the relevant people comes after Joyce was forced to block another 30 or so phone calls today.
Not emanating from a call centre offering solar rebates or some mindless prank on Gumtree, the pings have been flooding in from a former acquaintance of Barnaby.
A few years after meeting at a local pub, Gina Rinehart has been blowing up Barnaby’s phone with relentless emails, text messages and phone calls.
After the chance meeting where Gina explained that she was an influential businesswoman, her and Barnaby spent plenty of time working closely together on a number of Gina’s business issues.
That led to the mining mogul naming Barnaby her ‘Baby Reindeer’ – a title since made popular by the hit Netflix show of the same name.
While the relationship initially started off as more of a business thing, Barnaby explained to The Advocate that it quickly escalated to the point where it felt like Gina was everywhere he went.
“Mate, it’s all gotten a bit much,” said Baby Reindeer Joyce this afternoon.
“I’m a married man with kids, she can’t keep pestering me like this.”
“You should see some of the shit she sends me,” he winced, pulling up an email from a few hours ago with some rather graphic language.
Joyce then confirmed to The Advocate that he’s just going to have to bite the bullet and change his number.
“Yeah, it’s time.”
