Popular supermarket chain Centra is coming to Sydney later this year, with hopes to help beat the cost of living crisis by bringing their signature cheap chicken rolls.
As a cornerstone of Irish cuisine for decades, Centra’s rolls have been sorely missed by the directionless young people that leave Ireland every year for the golden shores of the country’s 27th county.
Northern Irish have been catered for in Sydney, the southern hemisphere’s largest open air sewer, since migloo time began there in the 1700s. The abundance of deep friend food in Sydney has meant even the most orange of men have found the transition to our island home easy on their iron colons.
Which is why Centra publicity manager Patsy Mac Dhuibhshíthe says the iconic chain once dubbed “the Bourke Street Bakery of Ireland” has decided it’s high time to make the journey to Australia.
“Centra has stores in every county in Ireland,” she said.
“Except Coogee. Until now that is. We’re coming to Sydney. No longer will Irish down under have to wait for their Centra chicken rolls to arrive by post. We will be making them hot on Arden Street later this year. So come down, grab a Lucozade, a pack of Carrolls Number 1s, a copy of The Irish Times and a chicken roll your way,”
“I’m from County Limerick, which means I have my Centra chicken roll with jalapeños, chipotle sauce and some extra mayo. It also means you shouldn’t fuck with me because I have no shame in booting someone when they’re down. Limerick City is a long way from Baggot Street. I look forward to you enjoying your own version of a chicken fillet roll soon!”
More to come.
