One half of everyone’s favourite duopoly have today hit back in the supermarket wars against the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC).
Coles AKA (the Red price gougers) have responded in fine fashion by updating their famous Down Down marketing slogan to try and head off some legal action from the ACCC.
A clever piece of marketing spin from the cold blooded head honchos at the Coles, the new slogan will read Down Down, Prices Are Down, Up For A Short Period Of Time And Then Down, But Way Higher Than Before.
While not quite as catchy as their previous jingle, the update is aimed at moving the price gouging supermarket out of the sights of the ACCC.
This follows the Green price gougers offering to bribe the ACCC to fuck up with all this legal stuff with a limited edition Blue Mufasa Ooshie.
The ACCC has yet to comment on that offer, or the new updated slogan from Coles – with legal action set to commence imminently for the price gouging dogs price gouging people.
While it’s been long documented that Coles and Woolies have been ripping off farmers and customers for as long as the housing market has been fucked, one of the crux’s of the legal action is that the companies have been substantially lifting the prices of products for a short period of time, and then ‘dropping them’ to a price that is much much higher than the product was a few months ago.
It’s unknown what the ACCC will actually be able to successfully force the supermarkets to do, but the nation is relieved that at least something is happening, I guess.
More to come.
