Richmond Tigers superstar Dustin Martin has today announced that he will be hanging up the boots.
The huge revelation from one of the greatest to ever do it came via a press release this morning, confirming the retirement will take place with ‘immediate effect.’
The announcement has somewhat put to bed rumours that Dusty would be taking a retirement package up on the Gold Coast.
Those rumours swirled earlier this year, claiming that the triple premiership, triple Norm Smith medal winner and Brownlow medal winner would join his former coach at the Gold Coast suns.
However, while there still might be the possibility of a deal to lure him out of retirement in the works, for now Dusty is bidding good bye to the AFL.
With the Tigers battling through another rough season and two hands firmly on the wooden spoon, the Campbeltown kid with a dreamy fend and centre of gravity is off to the Maldives.
Speaking exclusively to The Advocate this morning, Dusty said he’s told Serena to book the family in for a week in the Maldives.
“Yeah, time to do it again,” laughed Dusty, who was famously spotted enjoy a few margs with the 23 Grand Slam Singles back in 2019.
“Get away from this frosty Melbourne weather and put the feet up on a lovely villa floating over the water.”
“I don’t need to be copping a shot from some frustrated St Kilda halfback at this point in my career.”
“I’m off for a bit of R&R,” he finished.
