Liberal leader Peter Dutton announced this morning in Canberra that the Opposition will oppose the appointment of a woman to a senior leadership position.

Reserve Bank Governor Philip Lowe has not been given another term as the head of our nation’s central bank, with the position being filled by his deputy Michelle Bullock, who will become the first female boss of our monetary destiny.

Dutton has directed his frontbench to oppose the appointment, explaining that the appointment of Michelle Bullock is one that’s too close to the Albanese Government.

“We oppose this symbolic appointment,” said Dutton.

“There were many better candidates, in our opinion, but the Albanese Government decided to go with one that we feel will only serve the elites. There are systemic issues within the Reserve Bank, and they needed to appoint a leader from outside the organization, from outside the public service,”

“Someone who would fight for the voices of ordinary Australians. Dutton Battlers from Strathpine, people like that. Dutton Battlers from Liverpool, Campbelltown, and Blacktown. Dutton Battlers in, uh, Footscray? Dutton Battlers in Elizabeth and Dutton Battlers in Armadale, Caversham, and Mirrabooka. That’s who needs to run the Reserve Bank, not some woman or MAN with a PhD in taking the piss out of young Australian families,”

“It’s just symbolic. We feel our pick, Peter Costello, would’ve been better for everyone.”

More to come.
