Returning to her hometown of Betoota Heights to spend Christmas with her family, Abigail Walters (27) thought she was just popping into the local shopping centre for some last-minute shopping.
Little did she know, the shopping centre would double as an unofficial high school reunion venue.
“I only came here to grab some stocking stuffers,” Abigail sighs.
“Instead, I found myself avoiding eye-contact with people I thought I’d left in 2014”
Like stepping into a strange time capsule, Abigail found herself face-to-face with the ghosts of Betoota Heights High School past: Dan Ferret, now sporting cargo shorts and an an ankle monitor; Will Murphy, the most annoying real estate agent in Betoota Heights; and Felicity Hamad, twice-divorced and still trying to make it as an influencer.
However, nothing could prepare Abigail or who she was about to see at the food court, it was Hailey Ferrera, Abigail’s ex-best friend who she’s had a dramatic falling out with over a slanderous Facebook status in Year 7.
Abigail locked eyes with Hailey only to receive a death glare in return.
“I thought she was over all that Year 7 shit” Hailey sighed.
With her shopping trip officially derailed, Abigail retreated to the car park, vowing to herself that next year, she could do all her Christmas shopping online
