A Betoota Heights man has returned to town this week after a long weekend away in the Diamantina Valley wine region.
Famous for its white wine varieties on the rolling hills of the Mt Remienko Mountain ranges – the local man confirmed that he enjoyed the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of the fabled food and wine basket.
“Yeah, was pretty mad,” said Simon Tough, a 34-year-old plumber from our town’s most pebblecrete driveway suburb.
“Nice to get away.”
“The wineries were a bit la de da, but good to do something a bit different.”
“Some really nice wines actually, didn’t mind them at all.”
“The rose ones were actually really good,” said the man who pronounces the wine like the flower.
“Obviously not cheap, but is what it is,” continued the bloke who can drop 150 bucks on a generic Saturday arvo at the pub.
Tough’s wife confirmed that big Simmo had a surprisingly good time at the various vineyards.
“Look he gave up on listening to the people talk about the subtle palates, and the soft noses and the deep bodies after about 15 minutes, but he seemed to enjoy drinking wine for a whole afternoon.”
“He was definitely just gulping by the end, but he didn’t whinge once.”
“Until I tried to purchase a nice packet of chocolates which he said were pretty pricey.”
“I reminded him about how much a pint costs at the pub and he chirped down.”
