In some exciting news for sports fans around the country, the Soccer Kangaroos have progressed to the next round of the Asian Cup.

The Male Matildas managed to clench a spot in the Round of 16 of the tournament, after a gritty 1-0 win over Syria.

The result last night followed a 2-0 win over India, and means they make it out of the group with a game to spare.

Those results are being hailed as a massive win for equality in the sport, with hopes that one day the Soccer Kangaroos will be able to match the popularity and success of the Matildas.

A massive step was taken last year when both teams were given pay parity at a national level, in an effort to try and raise the quality of men’s football in Australia.

That funding injection has already paid dividends with results starting to flow.

“This is a huge result for us,” said the Men’s coach Graham Arnold today.

“Hopefully a young boy out there got to stay up and fell in love with the game.”

“Step by step, we will get there.”

More to come.
