The 2024 Paris Olympics are finally here!
After years of build up and anticipation the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad have arrived.
And that means a bumper few weeks ahead for sports fanatics, arm chair enthusiasts and even the most sports agnostic people – who always seem to find a way to enjoy the Games whether it’s through our feats in the pool or something like Artistic Gymnastics or Equestrian.
While the games don’t “officially” start for another 30 hours or so, and the Opening Ceremony doesn’t happen until the delightful time of 4:24am on Saturday morning, the first events have kicked off overnight.
Australia enjoyed a perfect start in the Mens Rugby 7s, winning their games against Samoa and Kenya, and the Mens football begun with a swathe of games.
With the opening act of Australia’s Olympic campaign kicking off at 11:30pm last night, the early shift was one for more of the rusted on fans, who weren’t content to watch a replay in the morning.
One of those fans was Betoota Heights local Andrew Wilson, who is still rubbing sleep out of his eyes this morning.
“I was just beginning to feel recharged,” laughed the man who watched a hectic amount of football over the last month.
“And I’m ready to run the battery allllllll the way back down to zero.”
“Matildas kick off at 3am tomorrow, and you know I’m up for that.”
“Doesn’t get much better than an opening game against Germany to test ourselves.”
“I just have to figure out whether I tell work I have a Drs appointment and catch a few hours after the game, or I wake up early.”
“These are the kind of decisions I have to make for the next few weeks.”
“And I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
More to come.
