A local woman has today revealed an incredible life hack for those struggling with an addiction to the tiny hits of dopamine you get every time you flick up on another TikyToky video.
Melanie Withnall (29) has explained to The Advocate today that a simple way to avoid losing hours of your life every week to scrolling wormholes, is to not download the app at all.
Melanie says while it might sound like this trick is simply abstinence, she says you can actually enjoy the perks of the short video based platform without the shiny new app.
The prolific social media binger says all you need to do is just watch every single TikyTok you want, but on Instagram Reels.
“You just have to wait a couple of weeks for most of the stuff, but it generally all filters through,” laughed Melanie.
“The way I like to think about it is like the glory days of your local Blockbuster.”
“If you want to get the hottest hits straight out of the editing suite, then you need to pay the price.”
“And that price is downloading the app that is essentially digital nangs for its ability to put holes in your brain.”
“Or, you can wait a little bit and get everything as a weekly movie. You just have to put up with repeats and shitty quality rip offs here and there.”
Melanie says this handy hack has helped her limit her social media detoxes to only once a month or so.
“I was detoxing like every week,” she laughed.
“Telling mates to text me or Whatsapp me before returning to social media to binge consume content and forward on 52 different videos to different friends and group chats.”
“Now, I only do it like once a month.”
“It’s genius.”
