As the nation prepares for the kick off the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the talisman of the Australian team has been given a talking too.

The head physiotherapist for the Matildas has politely asked Sam Kerr to take it a little bit easy for the next couple of weeks.

Not in the way she plays, but in the way she celebrates her goals.

“I’ve pleaded with her to just go easy on the backflips until we get a bit deeper in the tournament,” laughed the physio.

“Coach Tony (Gustavsson) asked me to have a bit of a chat with her.”

The chat comes as the Matildas prepare to take on Ireland in a sold out home opener at the Sydney Football Stadium.

Arguable the best goal scorer in world football, Kerr is also famous for her trademark celebration – a backy that would make a townie teen at the local pool stand and applaud.

“Don’t get me wrong, I love a backy as much as anyone else,” explained the physio.

“But imagine if she somehow tweaks a calf landing one?”

The physio said they’ve also had a chat about another habit of Kerr’s.

“No shoulder charges!” she laughed.

“If someone invades the pitch, leave it to the security,” she said in reference to the time Kerr Andrew Symonds the fuck out of a pitch invader.

“Again, it looks amazing. But as a health professional, it gets me on edge.”
