After nearly a full year of locked-down days, one Melbourne man says he can’t wait for the clock to strike midnight tonight.
Speaking to us via telephone this afternoon, Frankston Fitzroy (32) explained that he’s still in a bit of a daze ahead of the re-opening in a matter of hours.
From midnight, Melbourne’s lockdown restrictions are set to ease, with reasons to leave home and curfew winding up, as well as allowances for visitors and businesses to open back up.
One of the big new freedoms kicking off tomorrow, particularly for young people will be pubs, clubs and entertainment venues re-opening, and able to have 20 people indoors and 50 people outdoors.
However, as has been the case for the entertainment industry through this whole thing, a core part of their financial model will be impacted for a little while to come, with seated drinking and dining only allowed at this point.
“Fuck, I’m curious to see how 72 seated hours go at Revs,” explained the excited Fitzroy today, referencing the popular Melbourne nightlife venue that has taken the dignity of many locals and travelers.
“I mean, some of the decor is pretty comfy”
“But goodness I don’t know if that will be a good thing come 4:30 am on the first night back,” he said about the joint that stays open all hours to entertain some fairly frazzled individuals until the early hours.
“I’ll do it though”
“I’ll do all 72 hours seated in there”
“I’ve been dreaming about it”
“I’m packing my bags and ready to lock in for the long haul,” he winked.
“See ya on the other side”
