Like many families, the Bulstrodes of Betoota Heights prefers the family card game UNO to relationship ruining games like RISK or ones that only mum is good at like Scrabble.

Taking in an afternoon game of the colourful & continental card game, it seemed all was well for the parents, adult children and grandma as they treated each other to the indignity of drawing cards from the deck.

During round four of the game, the family matriarch Nana Bulstrode (known as ‘Nan’) claimed her first victory in a game of UNO since 1995 and emitted her loudest known cheer on record.

Nans conquest was short-lived as grandson Richard (19) pointed out that she hadn’t said UNO after she had placed down her second-to-last card meaning she had not won and now had to pick up two cards.

After insisting she had said UNO, Nan pleaded her case to the rest of the family who admitted they couldn’t remember if she had said UNO or not but considering her track record told her that she had to draw two and resume play.

This decision angered Nana Bulstrode who began a tirade against her pious grandson she was careful to keep light enough that it could be read as a joke later.

“You’re so cruel to me!” called Nan as she drew two cards in the slowest time possible.

“Doing this to your poor old Nan.”

The atmosphere failed to lighten as gameplay resumed, as nan-beater Richard won the game by playing a draw four wild car on his disgruntled Nan.

“Yeah I could have said something when she didn’t say UNO,” stated Richard in a post-game interview.

“But it’s really funny to see her get angry about this shit. Plus I have a really good record of winning these family games and I wanted to keep that up. I’m a winner.”
