In a rare bit of good news for the environment, the rate of global warming will be put on hold today after a local Dad decided to reuse an old enviro bag.
The story comes as 48-year-old father of two, Neil Lowes prepares to travel interstate today, for his yearly family holiday to Coffs Harbour.
A perennial ‘last minute packer’, Neil likes to put his entire family under strain by attempting to pack a week’s worth of casual clothes into a suitcase on the morning of his flight.
But despite his two children flaunting brand new July suitcases, which Neil bought for them last Christmas, Neil’s refusal to invest in any form of luggage sees him scouring underneath the kitchen sink for a suitable piece of carry on.
“Where’s that green bag I saw last week?” Neil muttered, as he trawled through the tea towel draw in the kitchen, hoping to uncover the classic green fabric, “I swear I saw one in the kitchen.”
While his teenage kids scrolled their phones and munched a bowl of pre-flight cereal, Neil got down on his hands and knees to dive through the depths of the kitchen cupboards.
Throwing his head under the sink, Neil screamed in triumph as he found a treasured green bag, sandwiched between a toilet plunger and several empty bottles of weed killer.
“There it is!” he squealed, dumping the tattered bag on the kitchen bench and emptying a collection of old door knobs and tap fittings, “This’ll be good for carry one, no nuckin’ furries!”
Tying up the enviro bag handles like a bin bag packed with prawn heads on the 3rd of January, Neil tells The Advocate there’s no need for fancy carry on when a bag like this will do.
“I probably don’t even need one, but it’s included in the price of the plane ticket hey?”
“I’ve only got one jumper and half a newspaper to take onto the plane, I usually raw dog the flight anyway!”
