Just a couple of days into the 2024 Paris Olympics, Australia has been declared the greatest sporting nation on the face of planet earth.
This comes after a bumper weekend in the water and on the road, with Australian athletes securing the title for the country.
With barely any events left in the Olympics, Australia sits first on the medal tally (equal first, and actually second if you want to get technical about it but it’s just semantics at the end of the day).
The place at the top of the podium comes courtesy of the gals tearing it up over the last couple of days.
Hailing from the tiny town of Camperdown in regional Victoria, Grace Brown secured the first Gold Medal for Australia, with a stunning ride on the slipperiest track in the Time Trial cycling event.
The followed a dreamy Sunday morning in the pool with Ariarne ‘Arnie’ Titmus storming home in the 400 metre freestyle before the gals got it done in the 4 x 100 metre relay.
Fresh off the back of that success for the greatest sporting country, Blue Mountains hero Jess Fox grabbed gold in the women’s canoe slalom K1 final, to confirm her status as an Australian great, and our country’s status as the Olympic Goats.
With just a hand full of events left in the remaining 12 days of competition, most of which we’ll win anyway, the nation is now basking in all it’s glory.
More to come.
