A round of post Oztag beers are failing to hit the sweet spot tonight as an ageing social footy team digest a harsh loss.
Having played the last four summers in North Betoota’s Tuesday night mixed social comp, the ‘Windorah Wolf Pack’ are a team of white-collar athletes that have enjoyed varied levels of success over the years.
After climbing to the prelim finals in their second year, the Wolves, captained by local sports physio Dom Brennan, have been on the slide in 2023 especially after losing the services of two Kiwi mates who moved to London last year.
Now facing a 0-4 start to the season, The Advocate can confirm morale is low for the team after getting adequately touched up 9-1 by a team of high school kids who fielded a side under the moniker ‘Can’t Touch This’.
Hoping to inspire some comradery, tonight the team ventured to The Butchers Arms Hotel next to Lockyer Parklands to have a post game bevy and capitalise on the $18 Pie n’ Mash special.
“Well thanks for coming everyone, appreciate it” piped up Dom, as he stared into the last depressing dregs of his Hogs Breath Brewery Hazy Pale.
“Yeah, we’re probably just a bit rusty still!” added Harriet Lorang, a founding team member who dropped three passes and bombed a certain try.
“It was pretty hot out there, I think running into the sun in the first half really caught us out” added team mate Sam, the only point scorer on the side who got a late consolation try off an intercept.
“We might have better luck next week, I think they might be relegating us to Div 6.”
