A local genius has today revealed his brilliance to his construction site.
Ashton Ackers, a foreman by day and David Walsh by night, has informed the blokes and ladies on sight that he reckons that Incentivise should get it done this afternoon.
The comments from the learned local man come as his site prepares to clock off for the arvo and head for a feed and a few beers for the Melbourne Cup.
Talking place at 3:00 pm this afternoon, the race that stops the nation looks set to jump with the shortest-priced favourite in living history.
Incentivise is the current favourite, getting around at between $2.50 and $3.00 for the 3200 metre race at Flemington.
The gelding bred in southern Queensland is going into the race as the lowest return top shout since Phar Lap, the famous horse that won the Cup all the way back in 1930.
Other notable shouts are Spanish Mission at $10, last year’s winner Twighlight Payment at 15s and Very Ellegant at around the same price.
While some might argue that a sub-three-dollar favourite in a huge race containing 23 horses isn’t that great value, Ackers reckons you’re a mug if you’re backing against it.
“Mate, I’ve been speaking to a bloke whose cousin actually works in the stables where Incentivise used to be,” he said to some of his colleagues.
“And he reckons, that the prep he’s had, and the way they’ve gotten him ready for the race, he will take a power of beating on that home stretch”
“I mean, piss your money away on roughies if you want, but I reckon the smart money’s on this favourite. They just reckon it’ll be too good.”
More to come.
