There’s a serious vibe on North Straddie right now, as the residents of the island revel in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
With one of Minjerribah’s very own about to take on the world for a shot at Gold, the island is absolutely Ethan Yeeeeewingggggggg, it can be confirmed.
This comes as Straddie locals prepare to cheer on their hometown hero Ethan Yewing, in a blockbuster surfing event at the Olympics.
“Straddie’s pumping dude,” explained one local grom who reckons his older brother is ‘heaps good mates’ with Ewing.
“From Oxley to Amity to the Point, everyone’s frothing Ethan.”
While most of the Olympic action is taking place in the City of Love, the surfers are taking on the swell in Tahiti.
Ewing headed into the event as one of the favourites, after finishing 2nd on the World Tour last year, and has certainly given friends, family, friends of family, family of friends and just about everyone on Minjerribah something to cheer about.
With crowds pouring into the likes of the Straddie Island Beach Hotel and the Little Ship Club, and countless TVs streaming the coverage of the surfing in Tahiti, the community is bathing in the success of the Ewing.
“Mate, Straddie’s always a vibe, but it’s a proper rare vibe now,” explained local man Dunwich Stark, another close contact of Ewing.
“We’ve all been watching him rip up on the WSL, but Ethan taking on the Teahopo’o for a Gold Medal is different gravy baby.”
“This is as good as it gets.”
