In breaking motoring news from Aichi, Japan, the Toyota Motor Corporation (TYO) has announced the release of a new electric powered Toyota LandCruiser.
The news comes as car manufacturers across the globe continue to design and innovate new models of electric vehicles, to support the global shift towards decreasing transport emissions.
Speaking to The Advocate via weblink, Chief Innovation Officer Tori Yasuda said the new LandCruiser was aimed to attract a unique class of customer.
“We understand that Australians have long loved Toyota. From the Camry to the Corolla to the Hilux, we’re proud to say almost every Australian has at one stage driven one of our vehicles renowned for safety, affordability and reliability.”
“But our research identified a clear market opportunity, and that’s 30-55 year old males, and a few females in regional Australia who like to spend their weekends hunting pigs”.
When asked about the design of the new vehicle, Mr Yasuda said the car was modelled off the infamous LandCruiser 78 series, a popular single cab ute prized by Cape York piggers and shooters.
Mr Yasuda also disclosed that the major difference was that the 78 series’ famed 4.2 litre, 12-valve diesel engine had been replaced by a Lithium-ion battery the size of a Hereford bull.
“That’s one aspect of the car our designers in Japan have been trying to work out.”
“Our focus groups from Queensland identified that we had to leave room in the back for a double swag, 120 litre Esky… not to mention the 110kg prized feral pig strapped to the tray.”
“It’s all about addressing the needs of the consumer, so we think we’re close to designing the perfect clean, green vehicle for those who like to kill wild animals for recreation.”
The Australian EV and pig hunting community can catch a first glimpse at the new EV LandCruiser, at the new electric car festival, the ‘Yarra Valley Battery Banquet’.
