The official Splendour In The Grass 2017 line-up has finally been released this morning. The headlining acts include selection of well over 100 artists, none of which are The Mike Whitney Band.
Triple J Breakfast were the first to announced the list of bands, which for some unknown reason doesn’t include the Mike Whitney Band, coming to the Byron Parklands this July for the three-day event.
Electronic band, The xx, who don’t play good pub rock like Mike Whitney does, is making good on their promise to tour Australia, alongside not pub-rock royalty Queens of the Stone Age, and the reunited LCD Soundsystem – a band that probably doesn’t know how good Who Dares Wins was
Other noteworthy internationals whose lead singer didn’t play cricket for Australia include: HAIM, Stormzy, Royal Blood, Catfish And The Bottlemen, RL Grime, Two Door Cinema Club, Banks, Ásgeir, ScHoolboy Q, Future Islands, Vance Joy, Peking Duk, Tash Sultana lead the Aussie contingent, also featuring Dune Rats, Meg Mac, Thundamentals, D.D Dumbo, Amy Shark, Vera Blue, The Smith Street Band, King Gizzard, Allday, San Cisco, Big Scary, A.B. Original, Julia Jacklin, Gretta Ray… we could go on but better to just check the list below.
Speaking to the Betoota Advocate this morning, Mike Whitney says he can’t believe he’s been left out of the Splendour headlines for the sixteenth year in the row.
“I guess they don’t want any REAL rock’n’roll bands” he said, before daring one of our reporters $80 in cash to eat a whole a jar of Praise Mayonaise.
A spokesperson for Splendour said that while Mike Whitney was not playing this year, Peking Duk are probably the only artists who have played in some sort of a generic grade cricket side, making them the closest thing to the Mike Whitney Band.
