In fairly unsurprising news, recent polling numbers have found that Queensland voters might be willing to give the other mob a turn.

These concerning numbers for Labor have been reported on heavily in Queensland’s only newspaper, The Courier Mail, as the upcoming State Election takes place in the midst of a brutal cost-of-living crisis – which comes off the back of a demoralising and unfamiliar State Of Origin series loss.

If the polling numbers are to be taken as gospel, then it seems that Premier Steven Miles, who has only been in power for less than a year, looks like he won’t be able to win over the required regional seats to form a majority government.

While unsurprising, many had predicted that Labor would be able to improve on their support amongst voters, given the fact that Queensland now has a Premier that is actually doing things.

However, after the frustrations of the pandemic, multiple natural disasters and a youth crime wave that has been caused by the public health lockdowns that forced young people to spend two years locked inside unstable households with people they’d rather avoid – it seems that Queenslanders might be looking to let off some steam with a complete overhaul of Parliament House.

But despite the near certainty of a change in Government, if the 2022 Federal Election taught Australia anything, it’s never underestimate Queensland’s ability to do exactly the opposite of what the Murdoch-owned Southern Media is hoping they will do.

This was epitomised by the election of three Federal Greens MP in south Brisbane – a scenario that could very well be repeated at a state level as Queenslanders slowly learn that the only thing the LNP has committed to do is removing the Mining Royalties Tax that has prevented Brisbane from turning into Detroit.

In the event of a hung Parliament, it seems that as the man who went ahead and implemented statewide 50 cent bus fares and is now mulling over the possibility of rent caps, could very well go against the grain and cut a deal with the Greens – or even Katter if they can come to an agreement.

If not, it looks as though the LNP might get the chance to take power again for the first time since Campbell Newman was given a 3 year term in 2012. An opportunity they will likely squander by doing something fucking crazy like locking up every bloke that owns a Harley Davidson.

While the Opposition appears to be led by a fairly moderate son of sugar cane farmers from Ingham, their campaign strategy has been to keep all cameras and microphones the fuck away from the shock-therapy-style evangelical Christians that make up the LNP’s cavalry.
