LOCKDOWN IS HARD ENOUGH: Brisbane residents are today reporting that the city’s lockdown measures have impact the region’s supply of high-definition video copies of the greatest action-heist films ever made.
This comes as QLD records three new local cases, forcing Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to extend the three-day snap lockdown for 24 hours the capital.
Ms Palaszczuk said the lockdown would continue until 6pm tomorrow night for Brisbane and Moreton Bay local government areas – but had no answers when it came to the community’s demands for a boost in supplies of ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’ Blu-Rays.
Released in 2000 and starring Nicolas Cage and Angelina Jolie, Gone In 60 Seconds is a loose remake of the 1974 H. B. Halicki film of the same name and tells the story of a retired master car thief who is forced back into the game to steal fifty cars with his crew in one night to save his brother’s life.
In the 2016 Census, Gone In 60 Seconds was voted QLD’s favourite film, with 1 in 5 respondents admitting to watching the film once a month.
It was ranked just above ‘Die Hard 2’ and ‘White Chicks’ in the list of QLD’s ten favourite films.
However, with the film increasingly difficult to find through online streaming services, and less than 60% of QLD still yet to be connected to the NBN – the state’s lockdown restrictions have resulted in a high demand for blu-ray copies of the film.
Palaszczuk has again fired shots at the PM’s inaction during the most recent outbreak, claiming her requests to get Gone In 60 Seconds uploaded to the ABC iView app were joyfully rejected by Morrison’s Communications Minister Paul Fletcher MP.
“The Queensland government is working day and night to secure more copies of this Nic Cage classic” said the Premier.
“We understand lockdown is hard enough. And Queenslanders shouldn’t have to be forced to watch Aussie cinema while stuck at home and doing the right thing”
The stay-at-home orders will end tonight for Noosa, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, Gold Coast, Scenic Rim, Lockyer Valley and Townsville.
“All we need now is a competent Federal Government with sufficient supplies of good movies!” said the Premier.
