Despite the cold weather in Northern New South Wales, it appears that the Byron Shire has completely sold out of water balloons.

That’s according to Target floor managers and newsagent owners across the region.

“I’m not sure what’s going on” said one Newsagent, Butler Parkway.

“Must be a big water bomb fight happening this weekend or something”

“We’ve had a lot of kids wearing bucket hats and and gumboots coming in buying these things. I can’t make out where they are from because all they know how to say is ‘yewwww'”

Locals have likened the water balloon deficit to region’s rental market.

“We’ve had enough” said the mayor.

“It’s unacceptable that our own locals are missing out on basic necessities because of all the blow-ins that are visiting the place to go to all of these music festivals and arts fairs that we keep hosting”

“First the rental market, then the soda bulbs… Now the water balloons!”

“Our local kids are forced to have water fights with the non-recyclable coffee cups they find in the gutter”

“We need to go back to the good old days when the only people that lived here were either running from the law or working in the whaling industry, or both”
