The long-suffering people of Northern New South Wales have had enough, according to recent date from Australia’s leading Christian head-count surveyers.
New data finds residents of both the Mid-North Coast and further up to the Northern Rivers are leaving the Church in droves.
That’s according to the Bureau Of Nation’s God Watchers And The Enthusiastically Religious (BONGWATER).
The most recent BONGWATER survey finds that 2022 has seen the largest dive in numbers anywhere in Australia since the findings of the Royal Commission into Institutional Child Abuse findings first came to light in 2016.
It’s a drastic drop-off that is expect to continue, as it becomes clear that God has forsaken this natural-disaster plagued coastal region. With nearly half of practicing residents deciding to skip church on Sundays to focus on cleaning up their mud-coasted main streets.
This comes as Byron Bay’s central business district finds itself under water again, after what long-term locals say is the worst flash flooding they have ever seen.
Widespread heavy rainfall in the already saturated Northern Rivers and Mid North Coast regions has prompted several evacuation orders as towns contend with flash flooding and rising rivers.
About 300 millimetres of rain has been recorded in the Byron Bay district in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Meteorology’s latest flood update for the Wilsons River at Lismore predicts the water could reach 12 metres by late this evening.
The poor old town of Lismore’s record flooding a month ago reached 14.4 metres – more than two metres above the previous record of 12.1 metres in 1974.
The town’s flood levee is about 10.6 metres, so things are going to be just as bad if this prediction comes to fruition.
With the government more concerned about patting themselves on the back for last night’s pre-election Federal Budget, it seems that not only God has forgotten these people.
