US President Donald Trump has began issuing a flurry of pardons during his final days in power, as was predicted by political opponents.
This comes as no surprise to media commentators, after Trump spent the last four years bragging about his diplomatic powers to pardon anyone he wants, even himself.
In 2018, Mr Trump even said he had the “absolute right” to pardon himself — a claim many constitutional law scholars dispute.
The President has granted clemency to supporters before, most notably earlier this year when he commuted the criminal sentence of Roger Stone, who was sentenced to prison after being convicted of lying under oath.
While many lawmakers and American voters grow concerned that the entire Trump family will walk out of the White House without facing any form of accountability for legally grey dealings and corruption that may have taken place while in power.
This looks like it will indeed be the case, however, after the President today pardoned one of the most universally despised villains in American history.
The late West German radical turned criminal mastermind has today had his legacy restored, after he was pardoned by Donald Trump.
Gruber, who was some sort of pre-9/11 terrorist back when white people could be terrorists, became a household name across America when he attempted to steal $640 million in negotiable bearer bank bonds from LA’s Nakatomi Plaza on Christmas Eve, 1988.
However, Gruber’s seemingly fool-proof heist was foiled by a chain-smoking New York cop who was having a bad day.
In the final days of Trump’s administration, The White House has taken great pleasure in taking direct aim at the ‘New York Coastal Elite’ – like Detective John McClane – who the President has long insisted was motivated by political bias.
“It is my Great Honor to announce that the late Hans Gruber has been granted a Full Pardon,” Trump tweeted. “Congratulations to late American hero and his wonderful family, I know you will now have a truly fantastic Christmas!”
Detective John McClane was approached for comment but was too busy experiencing personal turmoil related to his estranged relationship with his kids, after a lifetime of PTSD, which is related to being the only police officer present at several major historical events.
