It’s almost like last Wednesday’s ‘Tropic Thunder’ that saw New South Wales score their biggest State of Origin victory when they demolished the Maroons 50-6 in the series opener in Townsville didn’t happen.
Because no one remembers it, because last night the former NSW captain turned heavyweight boxer Paul Gallen lost a heavyweight boxing match against a Queenslander.
Even if he did manage to make the tenth round against a 22-year-old, Gallen’s mammoth effort as a 39-year-old who is comparatively new to combat sports is being overlooked for the meanwhile – as Queensland cherishes this sweet taste of victory that might not come our way again for a while.
With not much optimism in the Queensland Origin camp ahead of Round II, the Huni v Gallen fight is now being referred to as Origin 1.5.
From the Tweed to Cape York, Queenslanders are today making sure every cockroach within earshot knows about what happened last night.
“Suck shit you fucking losers! Hahahaha” yells one redeemed Queenslander on Betoota’s main street this morning, after identifying a deflated New South Welshmen through his license plates.
“You suck. Queenslander rules”
“Huni bashed Gal bahahahah. Na na na na na!!!”
Huni is now headed to the Tokyo Olympics, where he is in medal contention in the super heavyweight division – after delaying his second vaccine to take part in last night’s match because he doesn’t mind getting paid for his boxing.
