After being shocked by the response of the small but vocal anti-mask brigade to the recent rules requiring Victorians to wear masks in public, Australia was again rocked by the news that some anti-maskers are taking their protests even further.
This includes removing air filters from cars and lawnmowers, cutting filters off cigarettes, and using vacuum cleaners without dust bags.
“My family chooses not to suffocate themselves, and that includes my car” said once prominent Betoota-based Feline Psychologist, Bridgette Dimm.
“Who cares if there’s stuff in the air? There’s always been stuff in the air, long before these so-called “air filters” were invented.”
“Cars are designed for this environment, especially finely-tuned machines like my 1987 Corolla.”
“It naturally filters the air through the cylinders or something.”
However, Betoota Flight Path mechanic Simon Shearer has cast doubt on Bridgette’s claims that cars can operate just fine on unfiltered air.
“What?” he said, when asked for comment.
“Nah, don’t do that” “No, that would be really, really stupid.”
But unsurprisingly Bridgitte is not convinced by the expert advice from somebody who has been working on cars every single day for decades.
“You can’t trust a mechanic!” she laughed.
“They’re all on the Big Filter payroll. They get paid money to replace them; of course they will say that a car needs an Air Filter! What you need is to do some independent, unbiased research by typing “Why cars don’t need air filters” into Google. “
“That’s how you get to the truth.”
Bridgette says that based on her research she has even doubled down on her anti-air-filter stance.
“I’ve been sweeping dirt into the engine to help it build up a resistance” she explained, proudly showcasing a jar of dirt swept recently swept from the veranda.
“It’s working great; you can tell it’s more powerful now because it’s heaps louder”.
