25-year-old Elsie Mayer (Flight Attendant, Betoota) has today learnt that she’s the girl that everyone is going to be forced to make an effort with.
After dating her new boyfriend Nathan for about three months, Elsie was today debuted to his wider circle. And it seems that this circle hasn’t really had to worry about newcomers for a while
While Nath’s mates were both hilarious and generous in making her feel welcome, it seems that ingratiating herself with the wives and girlfriends is going to be a needlessly hard task.
This is because all the missos have known eachother almost as long as the boys have known each other.
“Yeah like ten years, I think?” says one of the missos, Jen, when asked how long they’ve all been friends.
“Nah probably eleven years” says Jenna.
“Haha yeah probably eleven but I introduced Tim to Janet ten years ago.” says Jane.
“So I’m the newbie haha” says Janet.
Elsie is now met with the horrifying realisation that not only does every single one of these women have a very similar sounding name, but they also look and act very similarly. This could very well be due to the fact that they have effectively grown up together.
As the afternoon drags on, Elsie learns that these women all have the same 5 year plan, which is projected to see them all start families around the same time – just as soon as they’ve had enough of the group holidays.
When asked what she does for work, Elsie describes her job in aviation, which means she’s often in the air and therefore misses social outings like this one, where she would be doing her best to catch up on a decade worth on inside jokes and social milestones.
However, as the wine pours in the sun drenched beer garden, the girls slowly become chummier. It’s at that moment, that Elsie slips into a false sense of security – and tricks herself into thinking she might be able to slot into this clique.
This warm glow is immediately shattered when one of the girls asks Elsie if she’s ever met Nath’s ex-girlfriend.
“No, I haven’t actually. He doesn’t talk much about her” says Elsie, in all honesty.
Elsie is then treated the entire biography of her new boyfriend’s ex partner, who appears to be have been very much part of this group until their break up 18 months ago.
“Haha she was actually the first one of us I met” says Janet.
“I caught up with her the other day. She’s doing well” says Jane.
“Haha me too. She’s loving life” says Jenna, nodding to some sort of personal development.
“Ahh good to hear. I love Jacqui” says Jen.
