NSW Police Minister David Elliott has claimed he “would want” his own underage sons strip-searched if police “felt they were at risk of doing something wrong”.
New data shows 122 teenage girls were strip-searched by officers since 2016, when the New South Wales government decided that shutting down every nightclub in their state wasn’t enough – and began a multibillion dollar crusade to criminalise any kids found guilty of having a couple disco biccies in their pockets.
Of those teenage kids reportedly strip searched in public, two were aged 12 and eight were 13.
However, the state MP currently in charge of NSW police dealings says that this all above board – and urged the public to not underestimate how important it is for cops to be able to ask school-aged girls to strip completely nude in front of them.
Career public servant, David Elliott MP staunchly defended the police officers who were under investigation from the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC) for allegedly abusing their powers by illegally strip-searching children, either with insufficient justification or without the consent of a parent or caregiver.
After noticing he may have completely misread the room, Elliott began to panic, and started looking for a light-hearted way to wrap up the press conference.
Luckily he had remembered to bring his iconic wobble-board along with him, and immediately began singing jovial nursery rhymes about the hard work of his officers finding a personal-use tablet on 34% of the kids they decide to search after their police dogs decide to sit down in front of them.
Through the art of musical composition, David Elliott MP then went on to claim that he “would want” his own children to be strip-searched and said that he believed the parents of children who were strip-searched would be “pretty happy”.
