Earlier today, Queensland Senator and far-right lightening rod Pauline Hanson went on the record, citing her friendship with Special Envoy to Indigenous Australians Uncle Tony X as proof she is not a racist and that you’re the one who’s wrong.
In a recent interview, Senator Hanson was asked to make a comment on her lack of action for those negatively affected by racial discrimination to which she cited her well-documented friendship with Uncle Tony X as proof she is not racist.
“No I don’t buy that, I have a friend and he’s a part of that community but he’s a hard worker also so it is very possible, everyone has equal opportunity,” stated the Queensland senator.
“He didn’t find it hard to get a job, in fact recently it was very easy for him to get a job he didn’t even want.”
“I just want to say, it’s ok to be white. Even though no one gets to choose to be white – and I don’t think I would have chosen to be anything else. But I’m not racist. I’ve got a black friend, as I just mentioned”
“Apparently you can choose to be black though… Well, i’ll clarify that. Your boss can decide when you are black. Like when Morrison decided Tony was black”
The interview took a dramatic turn when Senator Hanson was notified that her good friend and occasional squash doubles partner was serving a prison sentence for jaywalking and had converted to Islam while incarcerated.
“He did what? Please expl… I don’t believe…”
Although visibly shaken by the news, Senator Hanson managed the rare feat of composing herself and making a statement in support of a marginalised individual.
“In my experience, there is no evidence to suggest going to prison negatively impacts your political career so far as it goes… In fact Uncle Tony knows that more than anyone. Mainly because he’s the reason I went to prison”
“Not sure about the Islam thing. It can actually be hard to tell. I didn’t even know Dastyari was Muslim until he told me on Q&A”
“I don’t really see that becoming an issue as long as he agrees to never come to Queensland and celebrates Australia Day on Australia Day. No praying in public either. And no halal if we eat together. So there you go, I’m not a racist.”
