Iconic Australian media personality Peter FitzSimons has briefly removed his trademark red bandana today, revealing a large tattoo paying homage to his favourite band, Slipknot.

The ink, displayed along the right side of his skull, proudly declares Fitzy’s passion and love for the popular American nu-metal band.

FitzSimons – an Australian journalist, author, television presenter, radio presenter, former rugby player, chair of the Australian Republic Movement and social commentator – is famous for being the partner of The Projects’ Lisa Wilkinson.

His love for Slipknot began in 2000, whilst writing John Eales: the biography. Sources revealed that it was in fact Eales himself that introduced him to the band.

It was in 2005, before Slipknot played at the Big Day Out, that the tattoo appeared.

“I just love ‘em” said Peter “but the networks kicked off when they saw it. Thats when I started wearing the red bandana. It keeps the bosses happy and I still get to pay a little respect to the Slippers”.

Asked if theres anymore ink, FitzSimons revealed that he also has the phrase “People = Shit” tattooed on the inside of his bottom lip, in reference to one of the bands songs. “It’s a masterpiece” he said.
