Local Betoota retiree, Victor Stamolis (81) is reportedly not yet through the grieving stage of Virginia Trioli’s retirement from breakfast television.

The family of elderly former house painter say they’d been concerned by his recent reclusiveness and shorter temper for quite a while.

After months of probing by his youngest granddaughter, Victor eventually revealed what was up.

“He says he misses the nice Italian woman” says his granddaughter, Kylie.

“The one with the short hair”

After narrowing down the nice Italian woman to either Emma Alberici, Natalie Imbruglia or Tina Arena – Victor’s grandkids eventually realised who he was talking about ABC News Breakfast host Virginia Trioli – but only after speaking to his wife.

This follows Trioli departure from the nationwide News Breakfast television program earlier this year, with plans to replace Jon Faine on ABC Melbourne in 2020.

Her retirement from breakfast has broken the hearts of many viewers around the country, but not many have felt it as hard as Victor, who says Virginia Trioli is the only person from Melbourne that he would want to save during the inevitable purge.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom for pop, as his inter-state TV crush transitions as host of a non-syndicated radio show. The old man has told his family the he is warming to Trioli’s replacement Lisa Millar, he says one positive is that he doesn’t have to hear about the AFL anymore.

After 11 years of viewing, Pop still does not know Michael Rowland’s name.
