American biggest pop music superstar has made an uncharacteristic contribution to the 2024 US Presidential race, as Taylor Swift endorsed the Democratic Party on social media yesterday.
Arguably the biggest pop star the world has known since the pre-internet era, the 34-year-old has offered a rare insight into her political beliefs.
Posting to Instagram, the 34-year-old told her 283 million followers who she intends to vote for.
“Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most,” she wrote.
“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election.”
With Donald Trump and Kamala Harris now neck and neck in the polls, Swift’s endorsement provides a needed boost for the Democrat campaign – who have traditionally been lacking the support of celebrities who can move the dial.
Political analysts say the Taylor Swift factor might be just enough for Kamala Harris to combat the tidal wave of diehard country-rap-rock fans that have been motivated to vote for the republicans by Michigan hip hop artist Kid Rock.
While the ‘Swifties’ are known as one of the most enthusiastic fanbases in modern pop culture, it is not yet known if they will be enough to outweigh the ‘Kiddies’ on election day.
And while Taylor Swift’s post racked up more than 3.5 million likes in the first hour that it was posted live to Instagram, it also remains to be seen whether a simple nod on social media is going to be enough to move the dial towards the Democrats.
Especially when compared to Kid Rock’s spectacular performance of his 2000 track “American Bad Ass” at the 2024 Republican National Convention.
With Donald Trump also boasting the support of other notable American mega-celebrities like Hulk Hogan, Flavor-Flav, and that actor who played Hercules – the Harris campaign may find that having Taylor Swift in their corner is simply not enough.
