Minutes ago it was confirmed that the Member For New England, Barnaby Joyce has been named as the Leader of The National Party.
Again.
The Nationals leadership spill took place at 10:30am this morning, timing perfectly with the Prime Minister Scott Morrison entering his office for a zoom ‘National Cabinet’ meeting with the premiers.
With the Liberals caught completely off-guard, a new era begins for the Nationals – beginning with yet another Coalition cabinet reshuffle that will see the sniped McCormack moving to the backbench and losing a couple hundred thousand dollars from his salary.
And so begins the redemption of Barnaby Joyce, the twice ousted Deputy Prime Minister is back for a third run.
First it was his citizenship status that got him punted from the job by the high court, before he was re-elected and re-instated after a convincing win over nobody in particular in the New England by-election.
Then it was his well publicised baby mama drama that got him punted a second time, before he once again won back his seat in the 2019 Federal Election, against nobody in particular.
Well known for his inability to be pushed around by inner-city toffs, Barnaby Joyce will be make things very interesting in this marriage of big business Liberals and the rural-centric Nationals.
It is not yet known if the weatherboard and iron will bend for Scott Morrison. Many do not think it will.
The Betoota Advocate reached out for a comment from the new Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce moments ago but he missed our call.
He then returned the call while we were on another unanswered call to The Prime Minister’s office.
He left a four word voice mail that our interns have been able to transcribe:
“I’m back, you cunts”
