Special Envoy To Indigenous Affairs and Former Prime Minister, Uncle Tony, says he can finally understand what his brother Goodesy was going through back in 2015.
As half-time entertainment in today’s AFL Grand Final at the MCG, Uncle Tony X made the mistake of acknowledging his close ties to Indigenous culture by performing a traditional war dance.
Since that moment, roughly 60 minutes ago, the entire AFL fanbase has not stopped booing him. With some even throwing bananas.
“Jeez. All I did was vaguely acknowledge Australia’s rich 50,000 year history of Indigenous culture, and the contributions that Aboriginal people have made to the game of AFL” said Uncle Tony X.
The Member For Warringah told the unruly crowd members to have a real go, before leaving the MCG and beginning his road trip to Dubbo, where he plans to hang out with some real footballers.
“Everyone says they are booing me because I ‘steal free kicks’ – whatever that means, and because I’m a ‘flog’ which I think is a Victorian expression for a brown person you don’t like for no reason”
“Part of me feels like there’s a bit more to the booing because it only started happening after the dance”
Uncle Tony X has decided he will not retire, and will continue to fight for the empowerment and equality Indigenous people. But he does say one thing he has learnt in his one month as Special Envoy, is that most red necks are usually hidden by scarves.
