Mackay-based middleweight fighter, Billy “All Night” Wright has had a lot of big decisions to make over the last few months.

Accepting tonight’s fight as one of the early undercards for the IBF Australasian super welterweight bout between Tim Tszyu and Jeff Horn was the biggest.

Currently at 7-1-0, Billy wanted to make sure he wasn’t being stitched up as cannon fodder against some maniac from Western Sydney.

However, following discussions with the promoters, everything seemed to check out, and the man they All Night Wright agreed to jumping in the ring to fight for the coveted ILFBF Oceanasiastraliasia Middle-Middleweight Belt.

After he’d decided to sign on, and his team had successfully negotiated a purse, then came the finer details.

What to wear?

As a Queenslander matching up against a southern fighter, he decided to follow Horn’s lead and go with the maroon colours.

But seeing as though the QLD boxing board only allow black and white or red and blue corners – he had to settle for red.

Once that was sorted, it was all about what he kits his entourage out in.

With much deliberation, Billy decided on mixing it up a bit and kitting his team out in matching black t-shirts with ‘Billy “All Night” Wright’ written o on the front in gold foil text.

“That was the toughest decision” he said.

“I wanted to stand out you know”

“but… also maintain the undercurrent of bikie-affiliated fashion that is so popular in Australian boxing”

Arriving at the tunnel of Townsville Stadium in a black boxing robe that matches his entourage, right down to the gold foil text – Billy can hear the crowd cheering.

Now it’s all about showing them the most defining element of his personality as a fighter. The entrance song.

“Here we go” whispers Billy, as he begins his long walk toward the ring, marching to the opening bass cords of his chosen song.

‘Eye Of The Tiger’ is now playing for 14th time this evening.
