A highly intelligent but socially lacking university lecture has been met with crickets for quoting one of his favourite lines from the lesser-known Monty Python sketch The Complete and Utter History of Britain, from the late 60s.

Chemistry lecturer, Professor Clyde Markson (70) likes to envision himself as a bit of a larrikin, and not one to get too caught up in the theory.

However, it appeals this year’s cohort of CHEM202 may be a bit low-brow in their taste of humour, as Professor Markson discovered after rattling off his favourite quote from the 1969 British comedy masterpiece.

While lecturing his students of the intricacies of a certain formula, Clyde can’t help but draw parallels to colonial Britain’s love of Indian spices.

“Enougghhhh spice to satisfy the entire British India subcontinent!!!” he roars unexpectedly.

While sheepishly looking over his shoulder at his students, Clyde chuckles hysterically, somehow making eye-contact with almost every single one of his 32 students.

The professor is met with confused, and almost distressed young faces, with not one person in the room understanding what the fuck he is talking about.

“No?” he says.

“You’re not Python fans?” he asks, only to see 32 different 20-somethings shake their heads in shock.

“Oh I pity you” he says, before turning back to the board.
