Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has backed senior police who insist officers exercised “fine restraint” during violent clashes with protesters outside an international mining conference in Melbourne this week.
That is despite the fact that hundreds of people are still lying in dark rooms across Melbourne with wet clothes on their pepper-sprayed eyes.
Anti-mining protesters stepped up their action on Wednesday with 300 crowding the Melbourne Convention Exhibition Centre at different doors, as the user-pay police officers descended on the degenerate hippies.
Police have been accused of heavy-handed tactics with officers shoving protesters, using pepper spray and batons, while the activists have harassed the oppressed mining billionaires.
Seventeen protesters were arrested on Wednesday, in addition to the 50 arrested the day before. One woman had both her legs broken by the mounted police that were sent galloping into the volatile crowd to teach them a lesson.
The Victorian police have responded to the allegations of heavy-handedness by arguing that they very rarely have to use these methods.
“The Victorian Police are very busy” said VPS spokesperson, Sergeant John Bacon
“When they aren’t spending three months finding the guy that murdered a bouncer with a machine gun out the window of a stolen porsche in the middle of the Melbourne CBD, they are making countless mental-health checks on vulnerable citizens who need to be tasered“
The spokesperson pointed out that in all of the protests they attend to for crowd control, the Victorian Police rarely need to pepper spray people.
“But these hippies were very unlikable” he says.
“For future protests, we would recommend the climate protestors show us the same respect that the Neo-Nazis from Reclaim Australia do”
“Stop harrassing billionaires that have paid us to stand outside their mining conventions”
“And stop waving those XR flags. We prefer the black X with the red background”
“And stop calling us class traitors who enjoy hurting people smaller than us”
