A footy stereotype has been exceptionally spear tackled today as 19-year-old junior footy coach Nathan Clunk opened up about not being at all jaded about his own sporting career.
Like every blue collar fella who grew up north of Rockhampton, Clunk claims to have nearly got a start with the Cowboys but says he much prefers it down in Betoota coaching a junior team that still don’t quite understand what a dummy half is yet.
“I taught Jeremiah a thing or two about breaking the line, so it makes sense that I’m teaching these guys as well,” stated Clunk, looking at his team who all wear headgear and get a Gatorade before and after every game.
“That’s Nanai by the way, Jeremiah Nanai, we were edge partners for a bit and we’d carve it up.”
“Bit like he did in Origin…we were born on the same week y’know…”
Despite seeing people at his level achieve greatness and make history, Clunk states he is all about writing his own destiny which includes whipping his young side into shape and sharing some of his footy IQ.
“That’s the good thing about never making the NRL, you aren’t as damaged, so all my footy knowledge is still intact.”
“Yeah, my mates have gone on to play for Queensland but sit us down for a crossword and see who wins the best of three there.”
