After a solid six-year run of local hoodlums turning rivers and harbours into e-bike graveyards it appears the classic gag is finally coming to an end.

Since their introduction in 2017, rental e-bikes have attracted drunk people like moths to a flame, namely, the strange urge to chuck them into a body of water.

Spike Percer (27), a seasoned bike chucker as it’s known in the community, says the joke just doesn’t seem to hit like it used to and it may be time to hang up the boots.

“We had a good run, but randomly throwing these things into water really just doesn’t get the same laughs that it used to.” Spike reflected.

The drunken trend would lead to the deaths of several E-bike companies.

For long periods of time many Australian cities were left without any functioning E-bike companies. Ironically, it would be the same people that destroyed the E-bikes that would miss them the most when the company would go under.

“Yeah, that was so annoying when we didn’t have any E-bike companies in the city, I wonder why? must have been bad marketing or something” Spike suggested.

Fortunately, It seems as though the companies that were able to ride out the 6 year long gag will finally see the same success here that they’ve had in Europe for over a decade.

As the once-hilarious act fades into oblivion, cities are beginning to breathe a sigh of relief. Environmentalists are hopeful that this marks a shift in public attitudes towards more sustainable, less destructive forms of amusement.

“I’m hoping drunks can get back to more wholesome forms of destruction like throwing crates on light posts and pissing their name into the pavement” one city official explained.

As for the e-bikes, they’re finally finding their way back to the streets. Whether or not the rivers and harbours will ever be free of their bike graveyards remains a mystery.
