Following decades of film and TV glamorising the USA college experience, Aussies are finally getting in on the action as well.
In the midst of tax time, Australians with HECS debt logged on to do tax and realised that due to indexation their ‘interest free’ education loans were higher than they were even after paying a portion of it off.
Although many are upset that they are stuck with loans that could outlive them, an enlightened few are overjoyed that years later they are finally getting an American-style college experience.
“These debts will follow me around for life!” stated Spencer Bronson, whose uni had ‘state of the art facilities’ instead of frat houses.
“This totally makes up for all those red cup keggers I never got invited to!”
Famous for wild parties, casual misogyny, and extreme misogyny, media depicting the USA college experience made it out to be the most amazing time in a young person’s life, even if it did fail to mention the staggering student loans repayments that would follow some of our protagonists (if they weren’t typical rich kids) long after the freeze frame ending montage.
With his uni days behind him, Bronson (who doesn’t even need his degree for the job he is currently in) states that this gut punch of a loan repayment has finally given him the feeling of being the big man on campus but without the problematic connotations years down the line.
