A lifelong Blue Mountains resident , Xavier Dawson (31), has expressed serious doubts about this “Facebook” phenomenon that has Sydney in a frenzy.
Xavier, a particularly forward thinking man who considers himself on the forefront of all thing tech, claims that he is “more than a bit wary” of this new-fangled technology everyone on the flat lands seems to be raving about.
“I overheard this guy from Sydney talking about this new application called Facebook” Xavier recounted.
“If you ask me? I just don’t see this thing sticking around to be honest, I just don’t think people really want to upload all their images to the net, what’s the point?” Xavier explained while shopping in town for the Blue Mountain’s latest phone, the Sony Ericsson C510.
Despite Facebook being around for 20 years, and being viewed as a fairly dated app by many young people, it seems that the introduction of the social media platform to the Blue Mountains has sent the mountain community into hysteria.
“Apparently they have this thing called “selfies”, which is just a funny name for when someone downloads a photo they took of themselves to Book Face, can you believe that?” Said Marigold Desmond (17), a self proclaimed ‘typical’ Blue Mountains girlie.
Residents of the Blue Mountains have long been known for their quaint lifestyles, often opting for hand-crafted wooden gadgets over their digital counterparts.
Xavier’s skepticism about Facebook may simply be a natural extension of local culture, where Wi-Fi signals are considered a foreign intrusion and anything involving a screen is generally met with suspicion.
