In a bold and inspiring move, local urbanite Sarah Jan Phillips has rebranded herself as a passionate advocate for sustainable transport, citing her deep concern for the environment and the future of our planet.

However, what she didn’t mention in her heartfelt Instagram story is her intense fear of driving on motorways and bridges.

Sarah (29) who has lived in Betoota’s French Quarter her entire life, has always found the thought of merging onto a busy motorway or driving on a bridge more daunting than anything else.

“It’s just so unnecessary,” Sarah explained to our reporter, justifying her decision to ditch her Volkswagen Golf for good. “Walking and biking help me hit my move goal and taking public transport means I can read my book, it’s great. And way better for the environment!”

However, Sarah’s friends quietly acknowledged that her newfound love for cycling and public transport coincided with a terrifying incident on the Betoota Bridge last year, where she reportedly had to pull over due to a panic attack mid-drive. Since then, she’s become an outspoken critic of car culture, frequently posting about the benefits of walking, biking, and public transport on social media.

While Sarah’s advocacy has been met with applause from fellow sustainable transport advocates, her friends suggest that her stance on sustainable transport might be more about avoiding her driving fears than saving the planet.

Nevertheless, Sarah remains unbothered by the naysayers. “Cars are so bad for the planet. And if I can inspire others to ditch driving, then I’ve done my part”.

“Don’t even get me started on parking in the city and toll roads – at that point you may as well walk”.

More to come.
