In a rare moment of uncertainty, Betoota Green’s member Anna Cookson isn’t too sure where she stands on government plans to cull horses in the high country of New South Wales and Victoria.
This is despite her blind agreement with every other policy her chosen party has put forward throughout her voting life, from international relations, LGBTQ+ rights and climate change.
“It’s really difficult,” Ms Cookson said, “they’re such beautiful creatures. And it seems so cruel to have a nationals voter in a helicopter with an AR15 flying around like it’s Apocalypse Now or something.”
This likely stems from her teenage relationship with a mare called ‘Quicksilver’, a docile and largely useless beast that was scared of snakes, loud noises and weather.
“She wouldn’t hurt a fly,” she states, “And just thinking about all these Quicksilvers running around getting shot is too much to think about.”
“I know they’re absolutely tearing up the area’s unique flora and fauna. And I know that they’re worse than every other introduced species,” she admits. “But it just doesn’t sit right with me.”
“Farmers probably want them. Or private school girls.”
More to come.
