In a bold move to relive her glory days, former MS Readathon Hall of Famer, Emily Cartwright (28), has vowed to finally get back into reading this week.

The HR coordinator was known during her Betoota Heights Primary School days as the ultimate bookworm, often raising the most money for the MS Readathon. Emily would be found in the library at lunch, buried in the latest YA dystopian novel or fantasy series – her personal favorite being The Series of Unfortunate Events.

Unfortunately, in her own series of unfortunate events, Emily admits that her reading habit has taken a backseat in her adult life to the mindless allure of social media. “I don’t even know how it happened,” Emily confessed to friends. “My brain has truly rotted, I have no attention span. I try to read a book but end up staying up until 1am watching a 37-part TikTok drama.”

But after years of neglecting her once-beloved pastime, Emily has decided it’s time to swap the phone for a book. “I’m serious this time,” she declared over brunch. “I even set up a Goodreads account!”

Emily’s friends, while supportive, remain skeptical. “We’ve heard this before,” said one friend. “She tried to get back into reading last month, then I woke up to 90 Tik Toks she sent me overnight.”

Later that evening, Emily picked up the novel she’d been meaning to read. “This looks really good—it’s about finding yourself or something.”

“Actually, I wonder what people on TikTok are saying about it. Lemme just quickly check…”
