In what has become a time-honoured tradition, local friends Nick, John, and Shani found themselves deep in the inevitable “late night music video viewing” phase of their evening.
The trio, who had gathered at Shani’s apartment for a few glasses of rosé, had swiftly spiraled into a rabbit hole of iconic pop culture moments, thanks to Nick’s insisting: “We can’t end the night without some Gaga!”
Huddled around the TV, their eyes were glued to YouTube as Lady Gaga’s “Marry the Night” video kicked off. John, having seen it at least 150 times, mouthed along dramatically to ‘The Prelude Pathétique’—Gaga’s iconic opening monologue—relishing his moment. Meanwhile, Shani sat in quiet awe, whispering, “It’s the artistry for me.”
“Add ‘Judas’ to the queue! That song saved me in 2011,” Nick exclaimed, barely pausing for breath. But he wasn’t finished yet; he immediately followed up with a request for the infamous “Paparazzi” VMA performance, where the trio was captivated as Gaga transformed from a glamorous starlet into a raw, vulnerable icon.
Naturally, a few Glee performances crept into the lineup as the trio watched Rachel Berry belt Don’t Rain on My Parade. “But let’s be real, Mercedes was the true powerhouse on Glee,” Shani chimed in, earning nods all around.
As the night wore on, more obscure pop gems and 2010s bangers made their way into the mix. “Every gay gathering reaches this point,” Nick quipped, sipping his rosé.
“Omg, wait! What about CupcakKe’s new album?” John yelled, lunging for the remote.
