In a drastic and unconventional move, a man has decided that going to jail will be the only realistic path to achieving his New Year’s resolution to read more, citing his overwhelming phone addiction and hectic schedule as his main obstacles as a free man.
Hugo Christopher (25) has struggled for years with the addictive pull of his smartphone, finding himself constantly distracted when attempting to get into a book.
Even with the full-proof method of making it his new years resolution, his efforts to carve out time for reading amidst the digital distractions have repeatedly fallen short.
With the harsh realisation that his goal of reading more is futile in the face of his social media addiction and day to day responsibilities, Hugo figures that drastic measures were necessary to break free from the cycle.
“I’ve come to the conclusion that I need to remove myself from society and the ability to freely use my phone” he explained in a somber tone.
“The only place I can realistically have that is by spending some time behind bars.”
While his decision may seem drastic to some, Hugo remains undeterred in his pursuit of personal growth and self-improvement through the beauty of literature.
While Hugo figures out what crime he needs to commit to get locked up for a few months, he hopes his experience might start off a movement of sheltered phone addicted office workers improving their attention problems through the Australian prison system.
“My hopes are high, I’ve also been really bad with going to my corporate MMA gym after work so I’m hoping the time inside will fast track my progress with that too.”
