Gold Coast wellness guru Lara Amethyst-Riordan has this week revealed she knows exactly what fellow Australian Dave Conti went through when he fled the country to live in India, as she did pretty much the exact same thing roughly this time last year.
It’s alleged Lara had binge watched the entirety of ‘Shantaram’ as she thought it’d be similar to ‘Eat Pray Love’, and also because the lead actor (the most Australian looking pom) Charlie Hunnan, is fine as hell.
The twelve part series covers the true story of Dave Conti, who escaped prison and fled to Mumbai, India (then called Bombay) under the new alias, ‘Lin Ford’ – all with plenty of egregious shirtless scenes and motorcycle riding, which must just be part of Hunnan’s contract at this point.
Lara reckons she was quickly able to identify with Lin, as she found herself upheaving her chaotic city life to spend two months exploring her identity at a yoga course in Goa.
Though she wasn’t forced to flee to another country, Lara says the retreat really ‘opened up her eyes’, including her third eye, and that she too, had to deal with living in ‘squalid’ conditions, as her villa didn’t have a private ensuite.
“I completely related to his character”, says Lara, “it felt like watching my own journey.”
“I mean, aside from all the criminal activity hahaha.”
“I did steal a banana from the kids free fruit basket at Woolies once though.”
“If that counts.”
More to come.
