In a twist that has left bushwalkers and brunch-goers at odds, local hiker Tim Reynolds (34) is fuming after discovering that his trusted Salomon trail shoes have become the latest inner-city fashion statement.
Tim, a lover of the great outdoors, who has logged countless kilometres in his Salomons on trails across the country, was seen seething in a Fitzroy cafe this morning. His ire, directed at a group of twenty-somethings flaunting the same shoes he once wore solely for their intended purpose—braving muddy tracks and rocky terrain.
The Salomon XA Pro 3D’s, once celebrated for their durability and ability to tackle mud, rocks, and rivers, have now been rebranded as high-fashion accessories for those who consider a stroll to the cafe a major expedition.
The trend took off after influencers began flaunting the shoes as part of their streetwear ensembles, leading to a spike in demand.
“It’s an absolute travesty,” Tim exclaimed, his voice tinged with frustration. “I bought these shoes because they’re made for real hiking—mud, rain, you name it. Now, they’re being paraded around like they’re some kind of luxury item. It’s like seeing a Land Rover parked at a Woolies”
“They’re supposed to keep you steady on loose gravel or halfway up a bloody mountain,” Tim fumed, “not while you’re enjoying a soy flat white.”
“Do they even know what GOR-TEX actually means” Tim sighed
