A local Dad is staying today, thanks to the structural integrity of his two-year-old Bunnings umbrella.
Standing on the sidelines at Lockyer Memorial Park, watching his son play a game of U/12’s mod league for the Betoota Dolphins, it’s reported Jamie Casey (38) was forced to whip out the family umbrella to fend off an unseasonal late August shower.
Boasting a 137cm wide canopy and strong indestructible shaft, Jamie found himself daydreaming about the impressive longevity of the product bought from his local Bunnings mega market.
“Most cheap umbrella’s these days have a one week life span, throw anything more than a 25 knot wind at them and they’ll fold like a Kmart deck chair.”
“But this Bunnings number has stayed strong for years!”
An IT support technician by trade, Jamie admitted to The Advocate that his umbrella purchase may be the only thing he’s ever bought from Bunnings that has actually worked for longer than a week.
“I’m no Scotty Cam, whenever I got to Bunnings it’s usually for those wall-sticky things to hang a painting or maybe a pot plant or two.”
“But I did once buy an Ozito powerdrill to put some Ikea furniture together and it carked it after two bedside tables, so now it’s a paperweight that lives under my kitchen sink.”
Staring into the dark green canopy shielding him from the rain, Jamie told our reporter he was a proud that his $12 budget number was holding it’s own against the competition of wealthy families also on the sidelines.
“Look I know it’s not a sleek, black sexy umbrella like all the BMW owners swan about with, but they’re also the type of people that are made of money.”
“They can probably afford proper power tools with interchangeable batteries, nothing like Ozito ones that run off a packet of AA batteries and wishful thinking!”
